Competitive Automotive Regulatory System for the 21st Century (CARS 21)

The CARS 21 process was first launched in 2005. Its main aim is to make recommendations for the short-, medium-, and long-term public policy and regulatory framework of the European automotive industry with the goal of enhancing global competitiveness and employment, while sustaining further progress in safety and environmental performance at a price affordable to the consumer.

Relaunch of CARS 21

The CARS 21 process was re-launched in October 2010 with the aim of developing a common action plan and a vision for "a competitive EU automotive industry and sustainable mobility and growth in 2020 and beyond" which should contribute to the EU's energy, transport and economic targets. The group is expected to issue an Interim Report in Autum 2011 and a Final Report in Spring 2012.

FIGIEFA is so far disappointed with the level of inclusion of the aftermarket in CARS 21 but we hope that this situation will improve as the process develops.
