Adopted Roadworthiness test (PTI) Directive: publication in Official Journal

FIGIEFA welcomes the recent publication in the Official Journal of the Directive 2014/45/EU on periodic roadworthiness tests for motor vehicles,  following the adoption by the European Parliament and the Council on 3 April 2014.

The Directive, which will enter into force on 19 May 2014,  is part of a three-fold legislation, the Roadworthiness package, whose goal is to provide updated and more harmonised rules  with a view to improve road safety, cutting back emissions in road transport caused by poor maintenance of vehicles, and ensuring fair competition for commercial vehicles.

As from the 20 May 2018, the  minimum requirements adopted by the European legislators will apply to vehicles with a design speed exceeding 25 km/h of the following categories: M1, M2, M3, N1, N2, N3, O3, O4 and wheeled tractors of category T5. The new legislation will repeal the Directive 2009/40/EC and therefore update the regime of periodic roadworthiness tests of vehicles used on public roads.
