Towards the end of 2015, the European Commission launched a call for a new High Level Group (“HLG”) on the Automotive Industry, along the lines of CARS 2020, under the moniker “GEAR 2030”. The overall aim of the HLG is to “develop recommendations to reinforce both the short-term and long-term competitiveness of the European automotive industry”; it consists of 25 members, made up of national authority representatives and EU associations, trade unions and other groups.
FIGIEFA is part of the GEARS 2030 HLG.
In addition to developing policy recommendations, the process will also investigate all matters relating to the competitiveness and sustainable growth of the automotive industry, including the economic situation, the impact on the environment including enforcement of standards, trends and factors driving the structural and societal changes, value chain adaptation and international aspects of the automotive industry’s activity as well as the need to improve consumer confidence and information, and set up an action plan to facilitate the roll out of autonomous and automated vehicles.
FIGIEFA shall bring the genuine perspective of the independent multi-brand aftermarket to the proceedings.
